| Chennai: Madras High Court Chief Justice A K Ganguly on Wednesday said that he had received complaints that some judges in labour and district courts were not conducting proceedings on time and asked them to refrain from this practice as it badly affects the justice delivery system. "I have authentic reports that certain judges of labour and district courts are not sitting on time, causing loss of precious time. They are not available in courts on time. This is a crime against society," he said, inaugurating the 11th additional city civil sessions court for CBI cases and third additional labour court at the High Court premises in Chennai.
"It is the duty of the judges to be in the court during court hours. I appeal to the judges to be in courts on time," he said, adding that the judges should use their judicial powers for the benefit of the people. He also appealed to lawyers not to resort to strikes as it chocked the judicial system on which a lot of people depend for their livelihood. Tamil Nadu Minister Law Minister Durai Murugan said the state government was ready to allocate more funds for the improvement of infrastructure of courts. "We have already sanctioned Rs 100 crore this year for th purpose. The government is willing to sanction more number of CBI and labour courts in the state," he added. (PTI) |
