Ranchi: Listing its priorities before Chief Minister Shibu Soren, the Congress on Tuesday night urged the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha president to evolve a mechanism that would put a lid on 'corruption', provide more teeth to the United Progressive Alliance steering committee and frame a common minimum programme for smooth governance.
"The steering committee during the previous (Madhu Koda) government had been rendered ineffective while corruption was rampant. So we have asked Guruji (soren) to make the committee more effective by holding regular meetings," Congress leader Manoj Kumar Yadav said.
The Congress had branded the Koda government as corrupt and having failed to live up to its expectations.
Soren, who also briefly turned up at the Congress Legislative Party meeting, was urged to make earnest efforts to hold panchayat elections, pending for nearly three decades.
Yadav said Congress would give outside support to the UPA coalition under Soren's leadership and play a constructive role.
