Overview
Mahashiv Ratri is one of the most prominent festivals of India. Mahashiv Ratri means ‘The night of Lord Shiva’. On this day, temples are vibrating with the great Mantra of ‘OM Namah Shivay’ . Shiv Ratri is celebrated with great devotion in different parts of the country. In Hindu mythology Shiva is the part of trinity. Other two are Lord Vishnu and Brahma. Shiva is very generous and devotees believe that whatever your wish is Shiva will fulfill it. Kind and generous Shiva is always ready to bless his children. The whole universe is related to the three important elements- creation, preservation and destruction. No creation is possible without destruction and there can be no destruction without creation. These elements are fulfilling to each other. Lord Shiva is the master of these elements and He is the master of every bit of life in the universe. Maha Shiva Ratri falls on the moonless night of the new moon in the Hindu month of Phalgun, somewhere in February and March in English calendar. To show their ultimate devotion and love, Shiva worshippers observe a fast and worship Him on the day of Shivaratri.
