New Delhi: Congress President Sonia Gandhi has said that India's entry into the nuclear club, which has accepted the nation as a rising economic power, has been achieved as the country represents an example of democratic growth coupled with economic growth and increasing equity. "It has been done so only because it (India) represents an example of democratic growth coupled with economic growth and increasing equity," Gandhi said in the latest issue of the party's mouthpiece 'Congress Sandesh'.

She congratulated Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his team of negotiators who recently obtained the NSG waiver for India's peaceful nuclear programme. The UPA chairperson said young people should be on guard against ideologies that malign the ethos of the pluralist culture and the dreams of India to play a globally responsible role in the future. "For our young people who dream of India as a country capable of fulfilling a responsible international role in the future, it is imperative to guard against ideologies that malign the ethos of our pluralist culture," she said.
