Kolkata: Tweeting has become an ever-growing trend for the passionate followers of Twitter and it is has been quite some time that this virtual social networking hub has become a curriculum in our daily dose of socializing. Kolkatans, who are known for their natural flair for engaging discourse (adda), came out of the virtual world and caught up with their twitter friends in reality on 21st June, Sunday. This is for the first time that tweetup has become a success with around 15 twitterers turning up for this unique assemblage at Mac Donald's outlet in Park Street.
It was pretty difficult for the the main initiator to arrange such meetings since contact numbers of most of the invitees were not available. Fixing up venue and time was also preceded by a series of suggestions and discussions and finally, the enthusiasts decided to meet at this happening adda zone in Kolkata at around 4 pm. Such meetings have a special significance as you get to meet a whole lot of real-life strangers, whom you knew only as virtual friends.
Sunday evening reached the height of success as the twitters went ahead with the introductory process, getting to know the whereabouts of each of the members. It was a rendezvous with a difference. So many surprises await such unexpected meetings and the Sunday's tweetup was no different. With young people sharing their views on varied subjects and posing for the photo-sessions, the meeting discovered its true cosmopolitan essence. Most of the members of the tweetup were college students, while some of them were employed.
It was a different feeling to know someone anew, with whom you have been socializing via web. Amidst various other 'trending topics' the most interesting one was the discussion on whether the twitterers would have used twitter had it been a paid service. The responses were interesting too. Although this is the second time that Twitters of Kolkata had taken such an initiative but the latter proved a huge success as compared to the first one held in Jan 2009, when only three twitterers had turned up.
