IIFA Awards 2006  

THE INTERNATIONAL INDIAN FILM ACADEMY
IIFA is an effort to promote Indian Cinema globally. It is the celebration of Indian Cinema. IIFA constantly endeavours to showcase to the world the wealth of talent Indian Cinema has to offer. The IIFA Weekend and Awards is a celebration of Indian Cinema consisting of fun-filled activities that brings the fans close to their favorite stars.The highlight of the Weekend is the IIFA Awards Ceremony that honours the best of Indian cinema. Fans of Indian cinema from all over the world converge to celebrate Indian cinema , whereas millions worldwide catch the telecast from the comforts of their home. Starting with the Millennium Dome, London, IIFA has traveled through Sun City, Malaysia, Johannesburg, Singapore and Amsterdam. Wherever IIFA has left its mark, it has promoted the business of Indian Cinema and provided it an impetus.

THE PROGRAMME AND SCHEDULE
Over a period of four days, IIFA enchants the host country with press conferences, parties, film premieres, film festivals, business forums, celebrity special events and the glamorous IIFA Awards Ceremony marked by out-of-the-world performances, pomp and pageantry and fans from all over the world.


FILM FESTIVALS
As a part of its objective to give international audiences a flavour of Indian Cinema, IIFA introduced its first-ever IIFA Film Festival 'A Panorama of Indian Cinema' in Amsterdam in June 2005. The IIFA Film Festival showcased some of the finest films that Indian Cinema had to offer. Covering myriad genres, the IIFA Film Festival presented a variety of films that have received both popular and critical acclaim.

CHARITY
The Indian film fraternity has always been at the forefront of charity for the cause of the underprivileged, therefore the International Indian Film Academy has created a platform that would allow proceeds to be raised for the working class people of Indian Cinema. Instituted by the IIFA management in 2003, the IIFA Foundation has been a humble attempt to raise funds to assist and support the families of film industry workers who are adversely affected while working for the production of a film.

VOTING PROCESS
The IIFA Awards process is a completely transparent system devised by the IIFA Management in conjunction with Price Waterhouse Coopers Pvt. Ltd. Fans all over the world get to vote for their favourites via MSN, thus ensuring everyone gets to choose who walks away with the coveted trophies.
The Award Categories are:

~ Popular Awards (for Artistic Excellence),
~ Technical Awards (for Technical Excellence).
