Origin:

Historical records signifies that games very similar to hockey were played 4,000 years ago. Drawings found in the Beni-Hasen tombs, in the Nile Valley depicted men playing these sports. Records show that the game was played in various antique civilizations such as Arab, Persia, Rome, Ethiopia, as well as Aztec. However, it is not possible to point out exactly when and where the game started. During its initial stage, hockey-like games were played in the whole Europe. The origin of the word hockey is unclear till now. Although it might be considered that the word may trace its roots to comocke and ‘hok’, the Anglo-Saxon word for 'hook' or It may also have come from the French word, hocquet.

First Hockey Sticks:

The hockey sticks came into picture in the early 1800s.The foremost stick was quite different from the present sticks. The first stick was 36 inches long with a big sweeping blade. The stick was made of English Ash and was steamed and bent into shape to make the head of the stick. Later, the head was joined to the duct. The handle was made out of cane and a ‘V’ shaped link joined the head and the handle. This technique of making the stick continued till the 1970's.
