| Kumartuli is the hub of clay artists |
|
Our first stop is Kumartuli, the hub of clay artists, who work day and night to create statues of Ma Durga. The feverish pace with which the artists work, is conspicuous in every lane of the dingy locality. While some artists are seen painting the idols, others are still in the process of preparing the hands of the Goddess. Some hard-workers have finished preparing the idols already, and are now busy decorating the statues with ornaments. The skilled movement of their hands shows their dedication towards idol-making, as they work continuously, without even stopping to wipe the beads of perspiration that have oozed out on their brows.
