Illuminated streets for welcoming the Goddess

With so much of preparations going on the welcome the Goddess, Kolkatans will surely not let the roads remain dull and dark. After the Pandals, we check out the illumination that is being planned for Durga Puja 2007. “There are various motifs that we depict through tiny, colourful lights every year. Mostly, we create a scene that is in news through lights”, says Gobinda Das, an illumination artist. So what can we expect this year? “Many things”, smiles Das, “From traditional motifs to modern scenes. We have a lot of ideas this year”.

While traditional motifs still remain a favourite, latest events portrayed through lights also get enormous response. So, this year Kolkata is gearing up to witness the sixes hit by Yuvraj Singh in Twenty-20 series replayed through illumination. Also, one will get a view of Sunita Williams' space voyage recreated through tiny colourful lights!
