Jharkhand Legislative Assembly

Jharkhand was declared a state on 15 November 2000 followed by the Bihar Reorganization Act, 2000. In 1995 the Jharkhand Area Autonomous Council came into being after repeated agitation by the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and in the year 2000, a full-fledged state was formed. The present State of Jharkhand was formed out of 18 districts of Bihar. The Bihar Reorganization Act of 2000 made arrangements for seat allocation between the Legislative Assemblies of Bihar and Jharkhand. The Jharkhand Legislative Assembly was allocated 81 seats out of the total 324 seats in the Bihar Legislative Assembly.

The Jharkhand Legislative Assembly follows a unicameral mode of legislature. The general tenure of the Legislative Assembly in Jharkhand is 5 years if there is no prior need of dissolving.
