Western Railway's freight earning jumps nearly 21 pc

Ahmedabad: Western Railway's freight earning went up to Rs 22.6 billion in the first seven months this fiscal, an increase of 20.58 per cent over the corresponding period in 2007. An official statement released today said Western Railway has registered a 10.55 per cent growth in freight loading during the period. Freight loading for the period was 26.92 million tonnes as against 24.35 million tonnes during corresponding period in 2007, the statement said.

Major commodities carried during the period under review were coal 2.79 million tonnes, fertilisers 7.97 million tonnes and mineral oil 5.96 million tonnes. (IANS)
