| New Delhi: Challenging Indian Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor's claim that Pakistan Intelligence Agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) was behind the July 7 attack on the Indian Embassy in Kabul, Pakistan's Defence Attache in New Delhi, Brigadier Mohammad Iqbal said that 'India, better provide the proof to corroborate its claim'.
While speaking on the 'Role of the Indian Army in the changing security paradigm' organised by a magazine at united service institution of Indian Auditorium in the Capital today, General Kapoor said, "ISI has been involved in the terror attacks on the Indian embassy in Kabul and the organisation needs to be reined in. Unless funds to the Taliban dry out, the US is in for a long haul in Afghanistan."
Reacting at Kapoor's claim, Brigadier Mohammed Iqbal, sitting with other dignitaries on the same platform, interrupted the presentation to say, "India has been claiming that the ISI was responsible for the attack on the Indian Embassy in Kabul but no proofs have been shown to Pakistan yet."
Talking to media after the function Brigadier said, "We have condemned in strongest words the act of terror against the (Indian) embassy in Kabul. India says there is proof of ISI involvement in the attack. But it has been over a month and no proof has been provided despite Pakistan's demand for this," Iqbal maintained, adding that ISI is the most disciplined and intelligent security agency as the other intelligence agencies in the world.
Talking about the situation in Afghanistan, General Kapoor said that the conditions remains critical in Afghanistan. General also said,"Our aim is to make Army more efficient and developed so that we can tackle emerging challenges".
On being asked by a defence attache of France whether India support operations led by the 'Coalition Forces' in Afganistan, Kapoor said, "We are supporting Afghanistan in developing its infrastructure and also by sending medical aids." Adding further he said, "Our government always supports the operation carried by the United Nations but the present operation in Afghanistan is led by US and UK forces."
