New Delhi: A 13 year old boy was killed and 20 others injured in a low intensity blast at Sarai Road in South Delhi's Mehrauli this afternoon. The blast occurred at around 2.15 pm resulting in a panic in the area.

According to eyewitnesses, two men came on a motorcycle in the area and threw a polythene bag, containing explosives in a tiffin box, on the road. The deceased boy, Santosh, picked up the bag and ran after the men calling them to take their dropped article. Minutes after, the bomg exploded killing Santosh.

Police team, fire brigade and ambulance were rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control. The injured were rushed to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) H G S Dhaliwal has confirmed the death of one person in the blast. High alert has been declared in Delhi.

Amid the claims of Delhi police to have almost solved the case of serial blasts in the city earlier this month, the blast today is a major jolt to the functioning of the state police and law and order situation in the Capital. At least 30 people were killed and over 100 injured on September 13 in five serial blasts that rocked the Capital. On that fatal day, Gaffar Market in Karol Bagh, Barakhamba Road and Central Park in CP and M Block market in Greater Kailash I were targeted.
