Celebrations

On the day of Basant Panchami Saraswati puja is observed in almost all the parts of country. Bengali, Gujarati and largely people from the north India celebrate this festival on a grand scale. Idols of mother Saraswati are decorated with flowers and worshipped with books and musical instruments. She is considered to be the goddess of Vani (voice). Cultural programme start with a special invocation of mother Saraswati. In all educational institutions of music, arts and science, Saraswati Puja is observed with great reverence. In the evening after the Puja is over, the idol is immersed in the sea. Yellow colour is given special importance on this day. Women are dressed in yellow colour to mark the first day of spring. Mother Saraswati is also dressed in yellow garments and worshipped. People make foods and sweets, which are yellow in colour. As the first step of learning, every child is taught its first words on this day.



Saraswati Pooja is celebrated with great devotion in Bengal, Gujrat and Bihar. On the day of Basant Panchami a special puja is organized in the schools and colleges in India. Wisdom and knowledge always had a special significance in the Indian culture.
Kite Festival

Kites represent the true spirit of Basant Panchami. It is the best way to welcome the spring, king of all seasons. It is a beautiful sight to watch the blue sky colored with the different colors of kites. Kites are the binding factor in India. People from all the age groups gather to fly kites. A man skilled in kite flying is treated with great respect. People gather on their rooftops and a competition of kite flying is on display.
