Chandigarh: Over 10 people, including four policemen, were injured on Friday, when Dalit protesters clashed with the police in Haryana's Panchkula town adjoining Chandigarh. Dalits were protesting the killing of Dalit youth Rakesh alias Lara in Gohana town of Sonepat district on August 27 night by unidentified youth. The protesters gathered near the border between Chandigarh and Panchkula for demonstration. When the police tried to stop them, they pelted stones and bricks on them. While the Haryana Police engaged the protesters on the Panchkula side, the Chandigarh Police was also present in strength near Mauli Jagran locality to curb any spill over of the protest into the union territory.
The Haryana Police used tear gas and batons to disperse the mob, injuring a few people. Policemen were also injured in the stone pelting.
