Jaipur: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday asked political parties to refrain from politicising the issue of Gujjars demand for Scheduled Tribe status and said instead an attempt should be made to ascertain if a consensus can be evolved on it. The Rajasthan governemnt has meanwhile taken security measures to prevent eruption of violence during around Patoli village in Karauli district tomorrow in view of the "martyrs day" announced by the various Gujjar factions.
"The Gurjars issue is very sensitive and all political parties should refrain from playing politics on it. They should try for a consensus on whether to accord ST status to the community or not," BJP spokesman Prakash Javdekar told reporters in the city after a coordination committee meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje.
Javdekar said that Raje had still not recieved a reply from the Centre on the letter recommending Gujjars inclusion as denotified tribals with 4 to 6 per cent quotas. He said that the state government would take 'all measures' to ensure law and order during the 'martyrs day' at Patoli village.
Director-General of Police A S Gill and other senior officials on Wednesday made an aerial view of Dausa, Karauli, Bharatpur and Alwar districts even as some stray incidents of road blockades and scuffle between police and protestors were reported from Kota, Bundi, Jhalawar, Baran, Chittorgarh, Rajsamand and Udaipur districts, the police added.
