New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said in the Rajya Sabha that the Government is preparing a National Action Plan at the highest level to deal with the issues of climate change, including corrective measures for mitigating its impact on food grain production.
Responding to a query raised by nominated member and noted scientist M S Swaminathan in the Upper House, Singh said that the impact of climate change has attracted attention of the government and to deal with issues the centre was in the process of preparing a National Action Plan. He also informed that the plan would suggest remedial measures to mitigate the impact of changing environment.
Commenting on government?s contingency plans for dealing with impact of environmental changes on specific crops like potato and wheat, the PM said, "There was a need for such plans to deal with a situation arising out of wheat being used for feeding the birds and maize being diverted to make ethanol."
