Varanasi: A court has asked the city municipal corporation to inform it about the measures taken by the local body to prevent the drainage water and other pollutants being released in the river Ganga. Hearing a public interest litigation, civil judge (junior division) S N Srivastava passed the order yesterday directing the Varanasi Nagar Nigam authorities to file its reply in the matter on July seven, the next date of hearing. The judge also said since the issues raised in the petition was of public interest, any interested person may appear before it and present personal views on making the river Ganga clean and pollution-free. Banaras Bar Association's former president Avdesh Kumar Verma and one Kashinath Upadhyaya had filed a PIL seeking directive to the VNN for taking measures for prevention of drainage water and other pollutants being released in the Ganga.
